Pokémon Platinum is readying itself for release in the UK later on this month. However, our sister site in Japan has just revealed that the famed ‘Gold’ and ‘Silver’ versions are being remade for a new generation of handheld gamers too.

Poké-fans will be pleased to learn that this will be no mere re-buffing of the ten year-old titles, either. The new makeover includes plentiful new bits – monsters hiding in different locations and new gameplay challenges hopefully – as well as brand new names. How do Pokémon Heart Gold and Pokémon Soul Silver grab you?

The new/old games arrive in Japan this autumn and are bound to be massive-sellers, although they'll have a long way to go to beat the originals – they sold around 23 million copies worldwide the first time around. Speaking of which, there’s no news of a Western release just yet, but we’d think the chances of Nintendo keeping these for Japan-only are pretty much slim-to-none.
