Fable II digital download a possibility, says Molyneux [X360]

Thursday December 11, 11:33 AM Fable II digital download a possibility, says Molyneux

Brit games guru, Peter Molyneux, thinks that Fable II as a digital download could soon be a bandwidth-sapping reality for Xbox 360. Well, gosh.

The 360 already boasts a number of full game downloads for last-gen Xbox games - including Molyneux’s own Fable#1, which he says did “really, really well.” However these ‘Xbox Originals’ are positive tiddlers compared to monolithic current-gen titles, which typically eat up 6GB of hard drive space and, we don’t doubt, an enormous amount of your time as you’d have to wait for the software to trickle down even the widest pipe.

But Molyneux is not the sort of chap to be faced down by such inconvenient truths, telling Gamesindustry.biz “I think it would be a great thing for this studio to work on. I can’t say anything else on it - I would be killed to death.”

Of course such talk is cheap, and so is Fable II at the moment - around Ł19 if you shop around. So maybe Molyneux’s willingness to investigate digital distribution is as much about getting Fable II to market as cost-effectively as possible while maintaining his company’s profitability as it is his generally pioneering spirit. But let’s wait and see what develops - if anyone can pull such a feat off it's Peter Molyneux.
