Great news for those of you in the market for an iPod Touch – and bad news for those of you who have just bought one: Apple’s must-have gizmo is getting a substantial price cut and its performance is getting an upgrade. Last things first, and Apple reps speaking at the firm’s ‘It’s Only Rock and Roll’ event have confirmed that the new iPods will offer up to 50% faster performance with OpenGL ES 2.0 support, just like the iPhone. All good so far. But better still are the new price points. From now on the 32GB Touch will cost just £229 (down from over £280) while an all-new 64GB model retails for £299. Both units are available from Apple’s online store and other retail outlets right now. In other iPod news Apple has finally quantified the number of games available from the App Store – a staggering 21,178! Putting that into some sort of context, the DS has 3,680 and PSP a mere 607. We wish we could say that all the 'Pod's games are brilliant too, but, alas, that’s not always the case. That said, many are free, plenty more cost as little as 59p and some are horribly, horribly addictive. Plus there are great looking renditions of Madden 10 and Assassin’s Creed 2 in the works. In short, now’s a good time to join the iPod party.
