PS3: UK Price-slashing madness begins [PS3]

Monday August 17, 10:15 AM PS3: UK Price-slashing madness begins

A British supermarketing behemoth has just lopped a sizeable wedge off the price of the PlayStation 3. Here we go...

Yup, 250 notes. According to a recently spotted newspaper ad that’s all you’ll be required to pony-up for a shiny new, Blu-Ray playing, Wi-Fi-equipped PlayStation 3 if you hussle on down to ASDA as quick as your little legs allow.

Pretty good, huh? That’s nearly £50 off the regular RRP of £299. Apparently ASDA is even chucking a couple of highly decent games into the box too – purchasers have the choice of LittleBigPlanet & Ghostbusters, Terminator Salvation & inFamous or Killzone 2 & Resistance 2. Hmmm, tough call!

The advert in question seems to be the real-deal and there’s no suggestion that this is any kind of limited-time or regional offer. That said we were unable to find the same discount online, so maybe it’s best to call your local branch before making the journey. Y’know, just to be sure.

Otherwise this new £250 price point seems to consolidate the growing belief that Sony is on the verge of unveiling the new PS3 ‘Slim’ model during their keynote speech at the GamesCom trade show, and that certain retailers are effectively clearing the shelves in advance of the new stock. A leading French supermarket has already trimmed the PS3 price by a similar amount, so something definitely appears to be afoot. Guess we’ll find out for sure tomorrow morning.
