Several thousands of Mario Kart Wii drivers can take advantage of a brand new track this week, but you’ll need to brave the latest online Competition first.

A new Boss Attack Competition has launched on Mario Kart Wii, taking place in a brand new arena called Galaxy Colosseum. It’s a giggle in itself, the task being to defeat bothersome ‘Topman’ characters as featured in the excellent Wii game Super Mario Galaxy. A brand new game mode and a brand new arena... does this suggest that more original content could be on the way from Nintendo – fingers crossed new race tracks too? We hope so. It certainly has the fan sites speculating that this new content could already be stored on the Mario Kart Wii disc, and possibly remain unlocked at the close of the current competition. We’ll know for sure on this count when the competition closes on 9 June.

If new tracks, modes, and even characters continue to be made available via online, and are permanent additions, we may need to invest in that SD card after all.
