What’s going on at Sony, and what’s with all this corporate niceness lately?

First we find out that the 80GB PS3 is coming to Europe after all, and at a not indecent price point to boot (see previous story), and now we learn that the beta test for Home – y’know, the PS3’s social utility hub-thing which we thought was never going to happen – is going to launch in Europe with the identical specification and at same time as the USA. Huzzah for Sony, eh!

However this is Sony we’re talking about, and making this declaration in conjunction with such crucial information as, say, an actual start date is seemingly wa-ay beyond them. All that Sony Europe’s David Reeves would commit to is “autumn 2008” and a vague promise that “...the precise date will be announced by SCEI very shortly.”

Well that’s better than a bland TBA isn’t it? We’ll have more details as soon as the powers that be deign to release it.
