Director James Cameron’s first foray into the realm of videogames is looking titanic on high-end consoles and PC.

Due to coincide with the December release of James Cameron’s film of the same name, Avatar for consoles and PC is a sci-fi adventure in the mould of an action RPG meets real-time strategy meets MMO. The director famously responsible for Terminator, Aliens and Titanic is said to be taking a close interest in the project being handled by Ubisoft. The idea is to immerse players in the world of Pandora: “An alien planet that is beyond imagination”. However not beyond those who are making a film and game about it.

Avatar: The Game promises bizarre characters the likes of which we’ve never encountered before in video games. Players must choose sides within a conflict between the planet Pandora’s indigenous Na’vi people and the space-faring RDA Corporation. You’ll be piloting high-tech vehicles and riding fantastical beasts in large scale battles, all the while developing your characters and acquiring new skills.

We’re very much looking forward to experiencing Cameron’s eye-view of what an awesome video game can be. Hopefully the release date will hold as end of the year. Avatar: The Game is planned for launch in December on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, Nintendo Wii, DS/DSi and PSP.
