Okami Launch Special: Day One

Thursday June 12, 08:40 AM Okami Launch Special: Day One

A unique and magical game arrives on Nintendo Wii this weekend: Okami, from the master software creators at Capcom. Because we think Okami is so extraordinary, we’ve teamed up with Capcom to offer you chance of winning a Wii console plus a copy of Okami to enjoy. Between now and next Wednesday you’ll learn why Okami deserves your attention in a series of five Special Yahoo! UK Games Features.

Today we’ll give you an overview of this special game that has been praised as not only “outstanding” but “a modern classic” by the critics. Settle back into your chair, watch our exclusive video clip, then read all about it right here.

“Okami” literally translates as “wolf” in Japanese. Indeed, you might already have gathered that this is a tale about a wolf that undertakes an important quest of some description. But this is no ordinary wolf; she is the Japanese Shinto sun goddess Amaterasu who must breathe life back into a world strangled by evil.

In keeping with the story-book theme, Okami is presented as though hand-drawn on parchment in the style of ancient Japanese illustrations. As the player in control of Amaterasu’s destiny, you wield a ‘Celestial Brush’; a gloriously original tool that lets you paint objects and life into scenes wherever it’s required.

The Wii remote’s gesture style control method is perfectly suited to this task – you’ll easily paint bridges across deep waters and draw the sun in the sky among many other puzzle-solving scenarios throughout this unforgettable adventure. You’ll also use the Celestial Brush to damage enemies and cut through obstacles, again in an intuitive manner thanks to movements via the Wii remote.

We’ll teach you more about Brush Strokes tomorrow.

On Monday you can look forward to discovering how Amaterasu fares in battle, and the curious enemies she faces along the way. Tuesday we’ll show you how the world is transformed by the touch of our endearing sun goddess. And finally on Wednesday we’ll explain in more detail why Okami for Nintendo Wii is simply not to be missed.

Today, if you would like to win a Nintendo Wii and copy of Okami simply remind our friends at Capcom which manner of being hero Amaterasu represents:

a) Fun Goddess
b) Sun Goddess
c) Bun Goddess
