Uncharted 2 “impossible” on Xbox [PS3]

Friday August 28, 10:00 AM Uncharted 2 “impossible” on Xbox

Developers, Naughty Dog, claim that the Xbox 360 simply couldn't handle the excellent-looking Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

"I guarantee that this game couldn't be working on Xbox 360. It would be impossible. I'm 100 percent sure of this," Naughty Dog’s co-prez, Christophe Balestra, tells arstechnica.com.

"First of all, we fill the Blu-ray 100 percent, we have no room left on this one. We have 25GB of data; we're using every single bit of it."

"It's the combination of Blu-ray and hard drive. You can play the entire game without loading. We don't require an install. We're doing all the post-processing effects on the SPUs [Synergistic Processing Units]. The quality of the depth of field we have, you can't do that on the Xbox," he concludes.

Well, that all sounds very convincing, doesn’t it? Convincing, that is, until you remember that Naughty Dog is owned by Sony, thus not what you’d call unbiased in matters of bigging-up the PS3. We could also highlight the numerous instances where 360 graphics are faster and sharper than the PS3 - Ghostbusters, for one!

But, whatever. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is a PS3 exclusive, regardless of the Xbox 360’s ability to handle its gargantuan size or splendid visuals. And if it’s even half as good as its predecessor, Drake’s Fortune, it’ll still be one of the awesomest games on any console. 360 owners must surely be feeling just the teensiest bit envious about that...
