The ‘Hanabi Festival’ on the Wii’s Virtual Console gets into full swing today with two more games that time forgot. Nintendo also has a trio of oddities for WiiWare and DSiWare. First there’s Bomberman 94, which first graced the PC Engine (Turbografx) back in, er, 1993, and was renamed as Mega Bomberman for the Mega Drive a year later. It’s classic maze-based Bomberman action for the most part, complete with a superfluous backstory involving the peace of Bomber Planet being upset when the evil Bagular invades with his robot army, splitting the planet into five conveniently themed pieces. Thus it falls to Bomberman and his new kangaroo chum, ‘Rooi’, to put everything back together. And so it goes. You won’t go too far wrong with any Bomberman game of such vintage, and this is 700 Wii Points we’ll happily spend – this version has had its Battle Mode expanded to ten stages and boasts bombs that can travel around corners too. Bang on! Next up a game that totally passed us by first time and, if we’re honest, is likely to do so again. Zoda’s Revenge: Star Tropics II heralds from the last days of the NES and charts the adventures of school teacher, Mike Jones, as he fights his way through nine distinct time zones, meeting important historical figures such as Da Vinci, Cleopatra and Sherlock Holmes before a final face-off with the titular Zoda. It’s 600 Points if you’re interested. Moving on, and there's a threesome of goodies for Wii/DsiWare. 5 Spots Party for Wii is yer basic spot-the-difference game, although this one mixes the timed single-player fun with a competitive party mode. It’s 500 Points for the hottest difference-noticing action this side of The People’s Friend. Following that, Karate Phants: Gloves of Glory (pictured) is a 1-on-1 brawler featuring lumbering, aggressive elephants as the combatants – ho-ho, yes. Trunk-Slaps, Butt-Stomps and Barfs are among the many moves on offer. Hold on to your sides, hide your peanuts and prepare to fork out 800 Wii Points for this. Last of all Nintendo has another of those cool-looking Art-Style games for DSi. BOXLIFE is, as far as we can tell, the world’s first box-making simulator. Seriously – players use the touchscreen to fold up virtual cardboard boxes as quickly as their tolerance for such activities allows. An R&D mode explores the many forms boxes can take, while the Factory mode has players cutting and folding boxes from an endless sheet, creating as little waste as possible in order to maximise profit. We’re pretty certain it’ll be more interesting than we’re making it sound. It’s 500 DSi Points to find out. Can you afford not to spend it...?
