Since we last looked it appears that Nintendo has been busy adding cool new content to the Wii.com website. Okay this is not news as such – it is a Monday, after all – but it’s interesting nonetheless as the recent updates provide a much-needed new window on the functionality and actual functioning of the console and its many neat features… Indeed, the front page navigates straight to a choice of six movies demonstrating, in very enticing form, just how these features work. The Photo Channel is especially intriguing, and comes across as a slightly barmy concoction of Mario Paint and a more professional image manipulation application such as Photoshop. Daft and slick at the very same time! Elsewhere there are videos – some of which you may have already seen – showing off the internet browsing, Mii, news and weather channels and, perhaps even more revealing, an extended interview between Satoru Iwata (Nintendo’s President and CEO) and the Wii design team. It’s no gruelling back-slapathon, either. It’s all good and just makes us want a Wii even more. That said, it’s all very well adding information about how the Wii’s ‘other’ features work, but the site is still markedly short on actual gameplay footage, and that’s what is really going to sell this machine, isn’t it?
