Epic Games says it’ll be another four to five years before Marcus Fenix and Co rides out on an Xbox console – which could mean the next generation. It’s the Tokyo Game Show this week, and news has emerged that a new Gears of War could end up skipping the current generation Xbox. Epic Games president, Michael Capps, speaking at a Q&A session at the show, said, "If there were a next Gears of War, that will be for the next console generation, whenever that is." However, seeking clarification, Eurogamer has been told that he intended to say, in a round about way, that we could be waiting "four to five years" for a new Gears. We rather suspect Capps was covering his tracks. His initial comment suggests very strongly that Epic is holding back for Unreal Engine 4, which will require a new generation of consoles to run. The original Capps quote via Eurogamer, reads: "If there were a next Gears of War, that will be for the next console generation, whenever that is. If someone knows, please tell me! That's about four or five years away, I think." You work it out. We think there’s another Xbox on the horizon, albeit the year planet Earth will implode.
