In an unusual move Capcom has announced plans to reduce the cost of its downloadable content Map Pack #3 to FREE on Xbox Live. The pricing update will occur on 16th August – the same time that PC owners will be able to download a new patch to add a raft of DirectX 10 enhancements to the experience.

The PC patch is looking to be a significant update with new specialised geometry shaders apparently improving motion blur, depth of field and fur shading effects within the icy shooter. The update will also include Map Pack #2, a set of four new environments in which to play: Battleground, Lost Technology, Ruins and Ice Drop.

As well as these updates Xbox 360 owners who may have been having connectivity issues when playing the game online have been told by Capcom to look forward to a new fix in the next few weeks.

Let’s hope that Capcom’s decision to reduce the price of older downloadable content on Xbox Live is one that is followed by other publishers for the platform.
