Two utterly irresistible iPhone titles incoming courtesy of those bad bwoys at Rockstar Games... Fist up Rockstar Games and Timbaland present Beaterator. This pint-sized version of the already palm-sized PSP music game boasts thousands of Timbaland and Rockstar-scribed hippity-hoppity loops and samples which players can edit together in an astonishingly professional-sounding manner. It’s a perfect fit for the iPhone too, as Rockstar founder Sam Houser explains: "The simple, pick-up-and-play nature of Beaterator lends itself so well to the Apple platform. We are happy to deliver an application that allows for such unprecedented sharing and ease-of-use." So, it makes use of the touch-screen interface and, by the sounds of it, the iPhone/iPod Touch’s onboard Wi-Fi capabilities. That should be ace, and we can’t wait until the autumn release rolls around to find out. We're similarly hot for the second of Rockstar’s killer apps – Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. This 18-rated slice of lowlife follows the criminal exploits of anti-hero Huang Lee as he sets out to avenge his father’s murder. The top-down visuals are reminiscent of earlier games in the GTA series, but, as any DS owners will tell you, Chintown Wars is certainly no less compelling than its next-gen big brothers. Sam Houser is already bandying around such terms as “incredibly ambitious” for this iteration too, leading us to think that we'll be getting the full, award-winning Chinatown Wars experience. Fingers crossed, anyway – and please don’t let the high-octane action be marred by clunky, imprecise controls. Chinatown Wars is also down for an autumn launch. Keep a lookout for our preview/review soon, and be sure to check the official sites at rockstargames.com for more screens and info for both titles. Meantime we’re thinking that the iPhone version of Chinatown Wars will have graphics on a par with the newly-announced PSP outing – here are a few samples to drool over.
