The Xbox 360 has just passed the seven million mark across EMEA territories, says Microsoft, modestly omitting to add “In your fazzace, Sony!” And that’s an impressive two million more consoles sold across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (but mostly Europe) since this June too. Unsurprisingly they’re feeling a little bit pleased with themselves: “It’s the combination of elements that put us in a fantastically strong position,” Microsoft’s VP of strategic marketing EMEA, David Gosen, boasts to trademag MCV. “We have 360 degrees of entertainment. At the moment, momentum is fantastic, we’ve got real traction in all European markets”. Spoken like a true marketeer, eh? Of course the momentum Gosen speaks of is all down to the September price cuts, when the entry level Arcade unit became cheaper than the Wii (current yours for 129.99) and the fully-specced Elite undercut the PS3 by 70 quid. Alas, Gosen doesn’t detail which 360 variant has been doing the biggest business, but we’d hazard a guess sales are skewed towards the cheaper end of the spectrum. In any case Gosen isn’t finished with the winky waving: “When you look at what we’ve got coming, just in the next three or four weeks, that gives us the confidence that this will be the best ever Christmas in the history of Xbox. All things considered he’s probably right too - the Xbox 360 does seem to have the best selection of games this season. Unless you’d care to argue to the contrary…
