Read that again, blink uncomprehendingly and digest thoroughly – Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is coming to Wii. Activision is expected to make the official announcement later on today. Meantime Kotaku.com has pipped ‘em with news that Treyarch is handling development, that the Wii iteration is a direct port of the original game and that it is scheduled for release this November in North America, in perfect time with the arrival of Modern Warfare 2 on next-gen console and PC formats. Hopefully that all holds true for the European release too. It’s big news, alright, although not entirely unexpected. Treyarch has already brought COD 3 and World at War to Wii, the latter having shifted over a million copies since launch. And then, as we reported recently, there’s Modern Warfare: Mobilised heading for DS on November 10th. In summary, just because Nintendo consoles can’t match their next-gen rivals in terms of sheer grunt or visual prowess doesn’t mean they can’t play host to the biggest gaming franchises. Just learn to live with the slightly ropey graphics and keep telling yourself it’s all about the gameplay – and COD4: Modern Warfare surely delivers that in spades...
