LittleBigPlanet, the do’s and don’ts [PS3]

Friday November 14, 01:41 PM LittleBigPlanet, the do’s and don’ts

Advice to would-be LittleBigPlanet level creators has been issued by Sony via its semi-official blog spot this afternoon.

Last week’s biggest PlayStation 3 release has caused controversy over copyright issues and general issues of appropriateness and good taste. The radical new game LittleBigPlanet allows gamers to theme and create their own levels, which as you might expect has inspired some bright sparks to see what can’t be gotten away with.

Today Sony Computer Entertainment has outlined, albeit briefly, what is and isn’t allowed to be uploaded onto public servers where it can be viewed by one and all. Basically an announcement that it is removing anything that might impinge on another party’s copyright, and anything that might cause offence.

According to Sony: “In a very few cases we have upheld complaints regarding unsuitable content or infringement of intellectual property, with less than 0.5% of levels actively moderated as a result of complaints from other users.” It is claimed that 84,000 individual levels have been uploaded so far, the number of times these have been played is around 27 million.

Anyhow, to save you the trouble of searching for this elsewhere, here is the law according to Sony on LittleBigPlanet.

01. Ensure that the content you share with other users is suitable for all ages - everybody has access to your level if you publish it.

02. Please respect other people’s intellectual property rights. For example, don’t use images, brands or logos that you’re not entitled to use.

03. If you come across any content that you feel the need to report, then please do it responsibly. Hoax reports will be considered inappropriate behaviour.

We get the feeling that the gauntlet has just been thrown down… have a sensibly creative weekend everybody!
