The Secret of Monkey Island is just about to be resurrected on PC, likewise ten classic LucasArts titles via the Steam network – including a trio of Indiana Jones adventures, Star Wars Battlefront II, LOOM and others equally enticing. But is LucasArts on the verge of relaunching its back catalogue beauties on iPhone too?

It’s looking very likely, although LucasArts CEO Darrell Rodriguez doesn’t so much confirm it as drop one of the heaviest hints we’ve ever seen. Talking to Joystiq recently he casually loosed the following:

"On iPhone, you know Apple's policy that we can't talk about a release until it's ready to release. But it would make sense that we would do something like that if we were to go in that direction ... wink wink, nod nod."

Wink wink, nod nod? Well, you don’t need a microscope to read between those lines. Elsewhere in the same chat Rodriguez reveals that LucasArts’ current program of re-issues is not only “just the beginning” but also a “passion project”.

It sounds like plans are most definitely afoot at LucasArts, then. We hope so, since some of LucasArts’ point n’ click adventures would be totally sweet on the iPhone – particularly Monkey Island. More soon.
