Charts: FIFA tops New Year league [X360]

Tuesday January 6, 09:44 AM

New year, new games? No chance. Instead the first chart of 2009 looks suspiciously like the final chart of 2008. Ho hum…

In fact so similar is the countdown for Jan 3rd that there’s not a single game in the top ten that wasn’t in last week’s. Granted, they’ve all swapped places a bit and FIFA 09 has once again traded the top spot with Call of Duty: World at War. But that really is it in terms of hot charts-based excitement. Sorry.

So what about all the new entries that we usually find lingering in the lower reaches of the top 40? Well, there are a fair few to report but, sadly, none is particularly fresh. There’s a definite theme going on, though - Dr Kawashima‘s Brain Training at 13, 100 Classic Book Collection at 20 and More Brain Training at 28. Are we all feeling the need of a little cerebral stimulation after two solid weeks on the lash or did we just get a new DS for Xmas?

After that worthy cluster there’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare at 31 (and infinitely superior to CoD:WaW in our opinion), Imagine Teacher at 37, Tom Clancy’s Endwar at 39 and that’s yer lot for another week:

1. FIFA 09 (2)
2. Call of Duty: World at War (1)
3. Need for Speed: Undercover (3)
4. Guitar Hero : World Tour (6)
5. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (8)
6. Far Cry 2 (9)
7. Mario Kart Wii (4)
8. Quantum of Solace (7)
9. Gears of war 2 (10)
10. Tomb Raider: Underworld (5)
