When Wii Remotes bite back!

Thursday November 23, 02:49 PM When Wii Remotes bite back!

The Wii hasn’t been out long enough in the States for anyone to have sustained any lasting repetitive strain-related injury. At least not yet, but we suspect that day will come soon enough. In the meantime our American chums have been busy inflicting all sorts of other Wii-related damage to themselves, their property and their precious Wii Remotes.

These pics come from Nintendo.com’s official forums. It seems that over-exuberant arm-waving was involved in all these reported mishaps – a broken laptop screen, boshed glass lampshade and associated lacerations. No doubt that’s just the tip of the iceberg though, and we can only guess at the number of Remote’s that have so far been involved in unintended pet concussions, inadvertently been flung through telly screens, out of windows etc. Well, we can hardly blame US gamers – we’ll be flapping our arms around like loons too if we ever manage to get hold of a Wii this Xmas.

In response Nintendo’s forum moderators are keen to remind all parties that the Remote’s wrist strap should be attached at all times and that tiny flicks of the wrist will work just as well as exaggerated arm movements. Yeah, thanks for the belated sage advice, Nintendo, maybe you should have thought of that before inventing highly-addictive games that actively encourage us to make grand physical gestures. Doh!
