CES 09: Halo racks up the numbers, Halo Wars dated [X360]

Thursday January 8, 10:47 AM CES 09: Halo racks up the numbers, Halo Wars dated

Months after release and Halo 3 is still topping the Xbox 360 LIVE rankings. It’s also been racking up some pretty massive statistics.

According to Microsoft’s Robbie Bach speaking at the current CES show in Las Vegas each Halo 3 gamer averages around 150 hours of gameplay. That’s a stunning performance and a winning testament to Halo 3’s online functions - especially since the main single-player game takes less than a tenth of that time to complete. And speaking of online fun n’ games Bach also pointed out that three million new users have signed up to Xbox LIVE in the last three months alone. Sony must have particularly enjoyed that one.

In other Halo-related news Bach was only slightly boastful in revealing that the Halo franchise as a whole has now shifted 25 million copies worldwide. That’s huge however you measure it, but is still a mere drop in the ocean compared to Nintendo’s Mario franchise, which has sold well over 200 million to date. But give it time, though…

And maybe forthcoming spin-off Halo Wars (pictured) will add a few million more to the pot - that great looking RTS has now been dated for February 28th with a demo promised on the 5th. Can’t wait!
