The hidden truth to this story, we should point out, is that you need plenty of batteries to enjoy an enduring relationship with Nintendo Wii. The Wii remote isn’t rechargeable as with the wireless PS3 and Xbox 360 controllers. Of course you can always buy rechargeable batteries.

Anyhoo, it came to pass that battery manufacturer Energizer conducted a survey in which it found that Wii is the second most desired consumer gadget in the UK this Christmas. A high-def TV is number one, laptop computer number three. What till you see your Wii on that high-def TV guys, you’ll wish you bought that 360 / PS3 - hoh hoh hoh. Nintendo DS is the next best-ranked console among the gadgets at number six with PS3 in seventh. PSP and Xbox 360 didn’t even make it onto the rankings. Weird.

The survey further reveals that 42 percent of UK punters aged 25 to 34-years-old are interested in owning a games console this Christmas. Only 30 percent of 16 to 24-year-olds are similarly intrigued.

So we can ignore the turn of the century mantra of Kids Growing Older Younger, we’ve now got Adults Growing Younger Older. And the ice caps are melting.
