Just a quick heads-up for fans of quality Zombie-slaying action – a free demo of Capcom’s ace looking Dead Rising has just been posted on Xbox Live Marketplace. What’re you waiting for...?
There can be few 360 gamers still in the dark about this George Romero-inspired action/slasher epic. In short the game follows ace reporter Frank who journeys into some small US nowheres-ville or other in pursuit of a killer scoop only to discover that the 'burg is overrun with killers of a different nature. Frank does what any sensible chap would do in such a situation and seeks shelter in the local shopping mall and, well, you can probably guess the rest...
In his efforts to escape and despatch his pursuers Frank is able to utilise pretty much anything he can lay his hands on. As such the garden tools section of the nearest John Lewis (or US equivalent) will prove to be especially handy. Similarly Frank is able to restore his health using the ‘Mall food’ he can find about the place. Mmmm.
The most impressive thing about Dead Rising, though, is the huge number of flesh-eating Zombies the game is able to throw at poor old Frank. This is courtesy of something that Capcom calls, aptly, ‘Swarm’ technology. To say that this tech allows for an unprecedented number of on-screen adversaries is an understatement to say the very least!
Finally a reason to feel sorry for your fellow overseas gamers, or totally smug depending on your personality-type – 360 gamers in Germany, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and various parts of Asia won’t be able to play this game thanks to their over-sensitive censors. Oh dear, how sad, never mind etc...
