Electronic Arts has added yet another film director to its burgeoning stable - and this time the deal might work both ways too. First slasher movie demigod Dario Argento brings his heavily accented vocal stylings to Dead Space (see earlier story) and now Zack Snyder, the geezer responsible for bombastic shout-fest ‘300’ and the forthcoming Watchmen adaptation, has been conscripted. It’s movies/games convergence gone mad! EA has enslaved Snyder for three original games, as Variety.com reports. What three games and how soon we can expect them are not detailed. In fact Snyder apparently hasn’t even come up with the first idea yet, which probably demonstrates the enormous amount of trust involved in the agreement. Then again Snyder is no easily-flattered fool. The terms of the deal specify that he will retain the intellectual properties of anything he creates - and that alone will be worth a few bucks. More lucratively, though, his ‘Cruel & Unusual’ production company has the rights to convert any or all of them into fully fledged movies. That’s a got to be a better arrangement than shoehorning a game around an existing movie license, hasn’t it? Whatever the case, Watchmen looks ace and 300 was at least a stylistic triumph, so Snyder’s move into the gaming arena should be an exciting one to watch.
