No more PC exclusives for Crytek [PC]

Wednesday April 30, 11:04 AM

Piracy and hard economics have forced Crysis developer, Crytek, to abandon its PC-only platform policy.

We don’t suppose this is a bad thing if it means that Crytek ends up diverting some of its estimable talents towards home console gaming. However, the fact that piracy has informed their decision in the first place is rather more worrying:

"We seem to lead the charts in piracy by a large margin, a chart leading that is not desirable. I believe that’s the core problem of PC gaming…" company prez Cevat Yerli tells PC Play, adding, perhaps more tellingly, that console games sell way more than PC titles anyway. Whatever the case the upshot is that “We won’t have PC exclusives as we did with Crysis in future.”

So what of the of Crysis then? The game’s supposed to be the first of a trilogy, after all. So does this mean that parts 2 and 3 might find their way onto next-gen consoles? Perhaps not:

“Crysis as we have seen is impossible (on console). Crysis would have to be largely changed to bring it to Xbox 360 or Playstation 3. Crysis is designed to be PC Exclusive. Our internal focus is not linked to bring Crysis to consoles.”

Oh well. But if they're not doing Crysis on console and PC exclusives are a thing of the past what are they up to, exactly...?
