Go on, then – which is the only Sony-published PS3 title to have exceeded a million sales in the US? Killzone 2? LittleBigPlanet, maybe? Nope, not even close. Just six Sony-published PS3 games actually sold more than 500,000, according to newly published NPD figures, and Resistance: Fall of Man was only one that went on to break the million barrier. Colour us slightly shocked. Resistance#1’s success was no doubt boosted by the PS3 launch hype. It’s a decent enough game but it’s certainly been surpassed, in terms of quality, by most other Sony-published games on today’s list. Alas none matches Resistance where it really counts. LittleBigPlanet gets the closest, shifting between 750K and 1 million units. After that Resistance 2, GT5: Prologue, Killzone 2 and the utterly excellent Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune all sold in the region of 500-750K. The next grouping – MotorStorm, Ratchet & Clank and Heavenly Sword – sold 250-500K apiece, while MotorStorm: Pacific Rift and Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds have yet to attain even 250K sales. Putting it all into some kind of comparative context, the original Gears of War sold more than a million units into a US market of, at the time, just 2.9 million users. Resistance 2, on the other hand, sold less than 750K in its first six months and with a PS3 user-base of around 7 million. Hmmm. Not what you’d call good, is it...
