Charts: Smash Hits!

Tuesday July 1, 10:25 AM Charts: Smash Hits!

Another week another trio of brand new entries storms the top ten, with one heading straight for the hotseat. Heck, even Wii Fit is back in the countdown! What’s going on out there...?

Okay, first up and we’re mightily glad to report that Super Smash Bros: Brawl is this week’s brand new number one. That feels like some sort of victory for, y’know, games, doesn’t it? It’s certainly a victory for Nintendo as Brawl has become the third fastest selling Wii title to date, following in the gigantic footsteps of Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii. Speaking of the former Wii Fit is up from 19 to this week’s four, thanks to the apparent arrival of new stock last week – however, blink and you will have missed them, as retail shelves are empty once more. Flipping hilarious, eh, and just as Nintendo has started to advertise the product again.

Moving on there’s another new entry at number two in the not entirely serious wartime shooter Battlefield: Bad Company. It’s explosive stuff to say the very least, and is a laugh-riot online. Perfect fodder until the po-faced but most likely essential Call of Duty: World at War puts in an appearance. In other words go get it if you haven’t already.

After that Olympic fever gets off to an early start with the good looking Beijing 2008 at eight, pipping its cartoony contemporaries – that’s Mario and Sonic – whose own Olympian offering slips five places to ten. Not a bad entry, but we wouldn’t bet against the sillier of the two titles rising back to the top once again when the Olympics start proper. Until then here’s how the full all format/full price chart looks for the week ending June 28th:

1. Super Smash Bros: Brawl (NE)
2. Battlefield: Bad Company (NE)
3. Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures (1)
4. Wii Fit (19)
5. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (2)
6. Mario Kart Wii (9)
7. Top Spin 3 (10)
8. Beijing 2008 (NE)
9. Grand Theft Auto IV (4)
10. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (5)
