You may love rock music everyone knows you’re not experienced until you dig Jimi Hendrix - everyone knows that. Well, videogames will soon get their trial by fire.

This one tops even Aerosmith in our books. CBC News broke the story on Sunday that rock legend Jimi Hendrix (RIP) will star in his first ever videogame; the next edition of publisher Activision’s Guitar Hero franchise. Activision has received permission from Experience Hendrix - the bottom-line organisation for all things Jimi - to allow developers Red Octane to use Hendrix’s likeness and music in the upcoming Guitar Hero World Tour.

Hendrix fans have already wanged their plastic mime-axe to a cover version of Spanish Castle Magic in the first Guitar Hero, and there are only two original Hendrix songs planned for Guitar Hero World Tour: a studio version of The Wind Cries Mary, and Purple Haze recorded live in 1969. However, more Hendrix songs will be offered via download at a later date. Cross Town Traffic anyone?

Guitar Hero World Tour is released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 2 in autumn.
