Nintendo has just let loose a volley of new screens (okay, two) from the boxing portion of the increasingly ace-looking Wii Sports. According to the (admittedly dodgy) tastes of our ‘man on the inside’, boxing is the best fun of all the games included in Wii Sports – and hearing how it’s all controlled we’re inclined to believe him. In short players use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers in tandem to throw punches at their opponent. Bringing both hands up in front of the face makes your on-screen avatar go into a guard position. Similarly the Wii’s motion sensors can perceive any lateral motion, meaning that players can bob and weave as in the real sport, albeit without the worry of a flattened nose. Boxing is two player compatible too, using a split-screen presentation. Boxing is just one of five games included in Wii Sports, the others being Tennis, Bowling, Golf and Baseball (also pictured). The latter two sound like a hoot too, utilising as they do the Wii Remote’s acceleration-sensing capabilities to detect how hard a bat or club is swung, how fast a ball is pitched etc. But we don’t really doubt that all the games included will be enjoyable to one extent or another, and don’t forget that you get Wii Sports as part of the whole Wii console bundle. Roll on December 8th!
