We won’t be seeing any direct sequels to Ico or Shadow of the Colossus, says the games’ creator, Fumito Ueda. However, PS3 ports of both remain a distinct possibility... Let’s get the bad news out of the way first, though – Mr. Ueda has confirmed that neither of the aforementioned games will be getting a sequel simply because they’re too good to be topped: "In terms of franchising, I don't think that the previous game or the game before that had that kind of potential. Meaning that even if we made a sequel of the other two games, it wouldn't have exceeded the first one - there's no way we could go above and beyond," he tells the official US PlayStation Blog. Okay, if Ueda says no that has to be good enough for us – the man’s some kind of unbridled genius after all. In any case there’s plenty more action on other fronts. In the first place his newest project, The Last Guardian on PS3, is looking unbelievable right now. Secondly a Shadow of the Colossus movie is still in the works and Ueda has already confirmed that he’ll be involved one way or another. Finally, and perhaps most crucially, both Ico and Shadow of the Colossus could be remade for the PS3, as Ueda tantalisingly teases Kotaku.com: “I do have an interest in that. Next week, I'll have a meeting... But it might not be so easy, because, with both titles we really stretched the limits of the PS2. It's complex. So it's not such an easy transfer to the PS3. But I want to discuss it." Well, heck, if Sony managed the same feat with the God of War Collection we’re sure it can be done with these two, so fingers crossed. Meanwhile The Last Guardian is still very much TBC, although we have a cool interview/trailer from the Tokyo Game Show posting shortly. Be sure to check it out.
