Nintendo patents invisible horse

Tuesday August 11, 12:45 PM Nintendo patents invisible horse

Well, sort of. But it’s every bit as daft – Nintendo has just filed a patent for a blow-up saddle-type thing. Are we joking? Neigh, lad!

No games have been announced for the comedy peripheral yet, but you can pretty much guess how it’s used – players sit astride the device, insert the Wii Remote in a special pocket and then proceed to bounce up and down, holding the Nunchuk aloft to act as reins. Or maybe “a lasso, a sword or other weapon.” Apparently whinnying and snorting while doing so makes the horse go even faster. Okay, we made that last bit up.

But why use the device just to simulate horse riding when it could just as easily stand in for other creatures? The patent lists “bulls, camels, elephants, burros, dolphins, whales” as well as imaginary beasties such as “dragons, griffons, unicorns and giant eagles”. It could even be used to control “hang gliders or other aircraft, a magic carpet, a motorcycle, a jet-ski, land or sea exploration vehicles.” The possibilities are endless when you start to think about it. And heaven help you if you do...

Sadly there’s no mention of this inflatable thingummy actually getting a release date. However we’re greatly encouraged that it was found on the European patent site, so fingers, hooves etc crossed. And props to siliconera.com for spotting this one.
