Wii to outsell PS3 by factor of 4:1

Six days from now in America the official statistics for June videogame hardware sales are due for release. Ahead of their publication not one but two different videogame market specialists have predicted that Nintendo will have sold four Wiis to every one of Sony’s PlayStation 3, despite continuing hardware shortages of the former machine.

Wedbush Morgan Company reckons Wii sales will touch 435,000 compared to the PS3’s 100,000, a prediction mirrored by fantasy video game prediction market simExchange, an aggregator of predictions from multiple users of its service. simExchange puts Wii sales at 433,000, just 2000 shy of Wedbush’s estimate, while being slightly more generous on the PS3, putting their sales at 101,000.

However, it’s not all bad news in the stars and entrails for Sony. Wedbrush Morgan also estimates that the PSP will have outsold Microsoft’s 360 by 50, 000 units through June.

These estimates come in the same week that Nintendo president Satoru Iwata stated his belief that Wii would outsell the PlayStation 2 to become the most popular console of all time.
