Good weekend of gaming? Not plagued with problems logging on or staying connected to Xbox LIVE at all? Yeah, us too!

By all accounts Xbox LIVE has been struggling somewhat since late last week, when many gamers worldwide began to find themselves unable to sign into the service or, worse, unaccountably dumped from online multiplayer games. In some cases this left players incapable of using their machines at all - if you can even conceive of such a horror.

Unspecified technical issues were at the root of the weekend’s frustrations. Which probably means that the LIVE servers faltered under the strain put on by must-play blockbusters such as Gears of War 2 and Call of Duty: World at War. The millions of new punters joining the Xbox party since the recent price cuts can’t have helped much either. In both cases, though, it would appear that we’ve all just been victims of Microsoft’s success. Hrrmph.

Anyway, it’s all fixed now according to Xbox LIVE’s Major Nelson, even if it did take MS engineers at least two attempts to get it 100% right. However one soon-to-be very pertinent question remains - is it all going to work when the New Xbox Experience launches? Guess we’ll find out one way or the other on Wednesday morning.
