Charts: Wii Fit tops the treadmill

Monday April 6, 11:58 AM

The Easter break beckons and, in preparation for the chocolate overload in prospect, Wii Fit is back at the top of the all formats/full price games chart.

That’s 10 weeks in the big chair for Nintendo’s use-for-a-week-then-put-away-under-the-stairs ‘em up, and that equals a record held by Nintendo’s other high achiever, Pokemon Yellow. Respect is due.

So wherefore the previous number one incumbent? Well, another 38% drop off in sales since last week and Resident Evil 5 has still only fallen a single place to number two. Haven’t we all got a copy of this game yet? Mind you, the same might be asked of FIFA 09, which has climbed three places to three. Wheelman, in spite of its mediocre critical reception, is on an upward trajectory too - up from 11 to four - and Mario/Sonic/Olympics is back after a brief sojourn in the teens at this week’s nine. Everything else in the top ten is either there or thereabouts.

In terms of new/re-entries the highest-placed is the decent but dramatically short-lived but eminently rent-able blaster Wanted: Weapons of Fate at 13. Thereafter it’s a big gap until we reach WSC Real 09: World Snooker Championship at 30, Monster Vs Aliens at 33, Disney’s Bolt at 34 and then Price of Persia at 38.

Anyway, that’s what it looks like at the bottom end of the barrel, here’s the view from the top:

1. Wii Fit (2)
2. Resident Evil 5 (1)
3. FIFA 09 (6)
4. Wheelman (11)
5. Call of Duty: World at War (7)
6. Street Fighter IV (3)
7. Professor Layton and the Curious Village (4)
8. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (9)
9. Mario & Son at the Olympic Games (15)
10 Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (8)
