Wii discount ahoy?

A new ‘leaked’ ad from the US indicates that there’s a Wii price cut coming, and possibly as soon as the end of this month. Blimey, they’re all at it...

Kotaku.com’s been keeping tabs this one – last week they revealed what purported to be a Wal-Mart trade listing which hinted at a price cut in the offing, but now a new and apparently kosher Toys R Us advert has put an actual figure on it – $199.99. In Pounds Sterling that’d be £120 or so.

It’s all very compelling. Particularly as it follows so hot on the heels of recent price cuts from both Sony and Microsoft, and then even moreso because the TRU ad specifies a start-date of the week commencing September 27th. That’d time very neatly with the Tokyo Game Show too.

Then again, we have to remember that this whole thing could be nothing more than the work of hopeful Nintendo enthusiasts. After all, Nintendo prez, Satoru Iwata, said just last month that price cuts were not on his company’s agenda. Of course Sony and Microsoft had yet to make their moves when he made such a bold statement, and it’s now eminently possible to pick up and Xbox 360 Elite with fistful of decent games for little more than the Wii’s regular RRP.

We’ll keep an eye on this and let you know if/when something develops. One thing you can be absolutely assured of, though – Nintendo won’t say a dickie-bird about anything until they’re good and ready!
