Wii Shop celebrates Valentine’s

Monday February 9, 03:23 PM Wii Shop celebrates Valentine’s

Although you could hardly call this kind of stuff romantic.

Nintendo has lined up two new games for Wii Shop Channel for Valentine's weekend; one is for WiiWare, the other on Virtual Console. Neither of them leaves much time for you to stop and smell the flowers. Rather you’ll be running for your life and there will be a faint whiff of something quite unpleasant.

The WiiWare offering is a horror-theme puzzler taking place in a high school. It’s called LIT, thoug we're not sure why. This one-player only experience requires battling through classrooms to rescue your girlfriend in distress. It adopts the classic formula in which the protagonist is only safe while walking in the light. 800 Wii Points buys you 30 levels of story mode with additional timed challenges and various goodies to unlock. The hero could probably see things better if he got his fringe cut. Tsk.

Wolf of the Battlefield: MERCS is the VC release, again 800 Wii Points. It’s pretty much Rambo but with quaint (i.e. not very good) retro graphics… which would’ve looked amazing back in the day on Sega Megadrive but in 2009, no way sorry. The gameplay still holds up however, as shoot-’em-ups go, and you can drive jeeps and tanks and all that good stuff. Eat your heart out Killzone 2.

Nothing says I Love You like a night in with the Wii, eh.
