First a record-breaking Black Friday in the States, and now Microsoft is saying that the Xbox 360 has just enjoyed its best ever sales month in Europe. Bosh! Sales are up 124% year-on-year across all European territories in November, with big gains in France, Spain and Italy. Better yet Chart Track data shows the 360 totally outpacing its rivals, both of which had seasonal uplifts themselves - Wii sales soaring by 43% while the Playstation 3 barely flutters at just 3% up. Of course Microsoft’s good fortune is all down to the recent price cuts and, we might add, the fact that the console has by far the best software line-up. Okay, so the latter’s just our opinion. Either way Microsoft have much to crow about, as Xbox Europe regional VP Chris Lewis is quick to share: "November was a very significant milestone for Xbox – we sold the most consoles ever in our history in Europe, and are outselling PlayStation 3 week-on-week across Europe. Since the reduction in the Xbox 360 ERP in September, bringing the entry-level price point for Xbox 360 down to GBP 129.99, consumers have responded enthusiastically to the Xbox 360 offering.” "Our strong partnerships with retail and with publishers have played a big role in this success – we are working closely with retail to ensure a steady supply of consoles throughout the Christmas season, and third-party games have been selling well on the Xbox 360 platform and providing great choice for consumers," he says. So, a mere 3% uplift for PS3. We can’t say we’re especially surprised it‘s so low, but let’s see if Sony can turn that sow’s ear of a sale into a silky purse.
