Maurice Sendak’s ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ is a stone-cold classic of children’s literature. It’s currently being turned in an awesome looking movie by quirksome auteur Spike Jonze, he of Being John Malkovich and Fatboy Slim dancetroupe fame. Unsurprisingly there’s a video game adaptation in the works too. Props to Kotaku.com for spotting this one. It was squirreled away in the corporate profiles section of Amaze Entertainment’s website, where the career highlights of a number of staff are detailed and their involvement in the previously unannounced Wild Things game is mentioned almost too casually. Amaze Entertainment seems to specialise in big franchise spin-offs and movie tie-ins of the utterly mediocre variety, with a trio of Harry Potter games and PSP outings for Shrek 3, Spider-Man and The Sims 2 topping the company CV. In other words there’s no reason to suspect that Where the Wild Things Are will be anything other than, y’know, okay. We’re desperately hoping it’ll be a bit better than that, though – if any franchise deserves respectful handling it’s Where the Wild Things Are. Then again we’re still wondering how anyone is able to spin anything remotely lengthy out of the original book, seeing as it’s only just over a dozen pages and 338 words in its entire extent. We’re guessing a few liberties may have been taken with the storyline to pad it out. But let’s just wait and see, eh. Where the Wild Things Are is scheduled for a ‘Fall 09’ release, platforms TBC.
