Charts: PES kicks a winner [PS3]

Monday October 26, 11:28 AM Charts: PES kicks a winner

Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 opens up the scoring on this week’s all formats/full price chart, kicking FIFA out of the park and holding Forza 3 at bay.

Everyone likes to cheer for the underdog, so it’s always nice to see PES stick one in against EA’s unstoppable soccer sim. The 2010 game certainly deserves its success and has much to recommend it over previous outings, but, for our money, FIFA 10 still has it beaten on pretty much every front. PES 2010’s sales are interesting though, with PS3 loyalists taking a 66% slice of the retail action. Xbox 360 and PC gamers accounted for 32% and 2% of copies sold respectively.

Otherwise PES 2010 has gotten off to a slower start than usual. Chart Track reports that this year’s game has sold 39% less in its opening week than the 2009 edition. That’s a significant decrease, but at least PES has still held a number of seriously heavyweight contenders off the top spot. Forza Motorsport 3 is highest-placed at two, whereas Smackdown Vs Raw 2010 and lush RPG/shooter Borderlands could only manage five and seven. Uncharted 2, last week’s runner-up, has fallen to sixth place – we blame those rubbish TV ads.

So it’s four in and four out – this week’s casualties being Fallout 3: GOTY Edition, Prof Layton: Pandora’s Box, Halo 3: ODST and Brutal Legend. That leaves the rest of this week’s top ten looking like this:

1. Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 (NE)
2. Forza Motorsport 3 (NE)
3. FIFA 10 (1)
4. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (5)
5. WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2010 (NE)
6. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (2)
7. Borderlands (NE)
8. Wii Sports Resort (4)
9. Need for Speed: Shift (6)
10. Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising (3)
