Britain is riding high in the Olympic medals chart thanks to the Herculean efforts of our swimmers, cyclists and assorted posh sporting types. Alas the public enthusiasm for all things Olympoid has not quite manifested itself in sales of the official game, and Beijing 2008 is beaten into third place by Wii Fit (a game you can’t even readily buy!) and Mario Kart Wii. Go figure...

But let’s not deny Nintendo another moment of glory. They’ve had a fair few of them in recent months too, having occupied nine number one slots over the last 19 weeks. And good old Mario Kart’s just as much fun now as it was when it was first released, ooh, aeons ago. Shame we can’t say the same for the office copy of Wii Fit, which resides barely used and largely unloved ever since we realised we weren’t cut out to be uber-fit gym-bunnies. The Balance Board makes a cracking drinks tray, though.

Moving on there’s not an awful lot of other chart action to report this week, which, we guess, helps to explain how Wii Fit and Mario Kart have been able to stay on top. In fact there’s not a single game in the current top ten that wasn’t in last week’s countdown and Madden NFL 09 is the highest-placed new entry of any note at this week’s 12.
