World’s most notorious first-person shooting game announced, promised to take full advantage of the most powerful near-future PCs. The next Doom game is coming. id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead made the news official yesterday at the opening of QuakeCon, the annual first-person-shooter (FPS) gathering held in Dallas USA. However, nothing whatsoever has been shown. Doom 4 will be driven by three times the horsepower of id Software’s current high-profile FPS opus, Rage, to be published by Electronic Arts. Console versions of Doom 4 are planned, most likely heading for PS3 and Xbox 360, but the PC version will be the real showcase. John Carmack, Technical Director of id Software, told QuakeCon: "By the time that the next Doom game ships to consoles, PC will be light years ahead of current consoles." It has also been hinted that Doom 4 may arrive not long after Rage, with the two games being developed in parallel. That said, Rage still has an ETA of TBA and id Software has a reputation for being ready when it’s ready. The next Doom is coming, which is enough said for now.
