Nintendo has announced that DSiWare games and applications will be tied to the machine they were bought on. Which is to say you won’t be able to transfer them to any other DSi handhelds you may happen to own. Good gosh, no.

This news filters via Eurogamer and is announced on the eve of a trio of new DSi colourways – Light Blue, Metallic Blue and plain old pillarbox Red launching October 23rd, remember? The new machines come preloaded with Facebook and Flipnote Studio too, which is nice. Indeed it’s nice enough that you may be tempted to purchase one, such is your undying loyalty to the big N.

In such circumstances you might think it’s reasonable that you should be able to transfer existing DSiWare purchases to your shiny new handheld. Nintendo, alas, has other ideas, and will only consider such a quasi-piratical act if the original DSi breaks and is sent in for repair. In which case they’ll be the ones doing the transfers, thank you very much.

And shame on you for even thinking it would be any other way in the first place...
