There are three brand new games at 1, 2 and 3 on this week’s all-format/full-price chart. Top of the pile is UFC 2009: Undisputed. Blimey!

Well, that’s a bit of a surprise. UFC ‘09 is certainly an excellent game which fully deserves the 5/5 we gave it. It’s just that we rather thought that the pleasures of Pokemon might take precedence over the brutal bounty of mixed martial arts. In the event Pokemon Platinum only attained second place, one ahead of EA Sports Active. Meanwhile Wii Fit is relegated to fourth place – and still requiring two more weeks in the hotseat to enter the record books.

Elsewhere this week’s top 40 is pleasingly peppered with new/re-entries. Bionic Commando is the highest placed of the also-rans at 12, followed by The Mystery of the Mummy at 13. After that Damnation debuts at 27, Left4Dead is resurrected a place later and Nintendogs: Lab & Friends, apropos of nothing at all, is back for walkies at 39.

We guess it just goes to show that you can’t keep a good dog down for long. Anyway, here’s the top ten for the week ending May 23rd.
