In spite of earlier reports to the contrary several major publishers have announced that they won’t be revisiting their back-catalogues to make their games compatible with the PS3’s new Trophy system. Just yesterday the Playstation Network’s bossman, Eric Lempel, was telling Gamespy that Sony was working with its third-party developer chums in order to implement Trophies into the entire PS3 back-catalogue – not just new games. Alas, this appears to have been news to a trio of major players. 2K Games informs readers of its official forum that Civilisation: Revolution was designed before the Trophy system was invented thus it’s not going to be worked into the game any time soon. Ditto Insomniac, who tell IGN that they have no plans to Trophy-up Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction or Resistance: Fall of Man. Finally, and perhaps most bruising, Infinity Ward state on their forums that they have “no plans” to patch Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for either Trophy or Dualshock rumble support. “We would have loved to have these in the game at launch if the support was available, or shortly after” says the community manager. Oh well. Of course all this talk of Trophies is rather academic since the firmware update introducing the system isn’t working at the moment (see below).
