Media-oriented Update for PS3 today [PS3]

Wednesday January 21, 08:46 AM Media-oriented Update for PS3 today

PlayStation 3 owners are united in their rolling of eyes with each new System Update, but version 2.60 allows for home-video playback and more.

Today’s system software update, version 2.60, makes multi-media enjoyment – movies, pictures, music and video – much more user-friendly on PS3. In other words, lots of the things you thought you could do but couldn’t, well now you can.

Such as, for starters, being able to arrange all the digital photos you’ve uploaded into some kind of order other than ‘latest first. Now they can be grouped according to date and time, the name of a particular event, or other categories of your own choosing. After you’ve done this you can select a particular frame design and musical theme from your MP3 library to suit the group of photos.

The home-movie feature we mentioned above relates to the newly-added DivX 3.11 compatibility, allowing for transfer of digital movie files from a home camera.

Finally Sony has made the PlayStation Store available to anyone who’s online with a PS3 – you no longer need to have created a PlayStation Network account in order to view the latest trailers and game demos that are available. However you will still need to create an account if you actually want to download any content.
