Well, “might be” according to Time Magazine’s Business & Technology column. The US is clearly flipping out over Wii. Time Magazine’s Wilson Rothman has been soaking up the pleasures of Wii after taking one home for the weekend. In his column titled “Instant Wii Play”, Rothman has expressed general astonishment at the fun factor inherent with Wii. Bearing in mind Rothman’s standpoint as “an admitted non-gamer”, the general consensus is high recommendation for Wii at a crucial time with PS3 just around the corner and Xbox 360 ramping up its family-oriented appeal. “I discovered quickly that [Wii Sports] might be the greatest videogame ever made,” Rothman gushes in his introduction. “My hope is that Nintendo continues to develop games like Wii Sports—it's easy to dream up Wii versions of other activities, from fishing to snowmobiling”. Predictably games such as Zelda and Excite Truck didn’t tickle his fancy quite so much, the price of essential additional controllers for party gaming also clouded the festivities somewhat. Anyhow, if Nintendo gets its message right this Christmas we could be seeing similar high praises emerge from the UK’s mainstream media. Top marks from a gaming magazine is one thing, but “might be the greatest videogame ever made” from Time Magazine… Holy Toledo!
