How long is too long to wait for a good game? While you’re pondering that one let us float this little air-biscuit – Gran Turismo 5 may not actually be trundling out of the pit lane next year after all!

This stinker comes via Joystiq, who were chatting with the game’s creator Kazunori Yamauchi at the E3. By his account Polyphony Digital are hard at work on the game at the moment and are planning to expand GT5 Prologue with new cars, tracks and other features etc. However, the upshot of all this seems to be that the big game itself might not roll out until 2010. Will anyone still care about the game by then? Yamauchi had better be messing with us or the game had better be very, very good is all we’ll say.

But there’s a double kick in the teeth coming – Yamauchi says that Gran Turismo 4 Mobile for the PSP – remember that one? – is now not planned for release until after GT5 launches. Incredible!
