Families at war on WiiWare!

Friday March 13, 11:19 AM Families at war on WiiWare!

Okay, maybe not, but the two new WiiWare releases today have a definite competitive element and we had to do something to make them sound exciting.

First up - and priciest at 1000 Wii Points - Jungle Speed is a lightning-quick card game where reflexes and the keen eye of a Peregrine Falcon will win the day.

Gameplay involves players flipping cards one at a time until two symbols match, whereupon the players affected scramble like crazed loons to grab the ‘Totem’ in the middle of the table. The loser gets the winners cards and anything in the pot. The winner is the chap or chappesse to get rid of his or her cards first.

Hmm, sounds suspiciously like the game of ‘Snap’ to us, although special cards can temporarily change the rules. Either way, a standard pack of playing is both cheaper, more flexible and can be used to make teetering pyramids when you get bored. Your choice.

Moving on, and Family Table Tennis delivers exactly what it promises - right down to featuring four characters called Mommy, Daddy, Sarah and Billy. The “super-fun” gameplay features a selection of indoor and outdoor arenas, Single or Versus gameplay and a collection of three minigames - Target Table Tennis, Thrilling Table Tennis and Matching Table Tennis. And if that enticing trio wasn’t enough there’s the appealing graphics and endearing music to look forward to.

We were just about to consign Family Table Tennis to the ever-growing list of WiiWare titles that we wouldn’t ever play when we noticed that it hails from AKSYS - the same team responsible for the Guilty Gear series and the Street Fighter IV-beating Japanese arcade smash that is BlazBlue. So perhaps we’ll take a peek after all. It’s 800 Wii points if curiosity gets the better of you.
