What is Infinity Ward up to these days? Aside from revelling in the continued glory (and obscene amounts of cash) that being the developers of Call of Duty 4 brings, that is... Take a peek at their official blog (infinityward.com/community/blog) and you’ll find lots of tantalising talk about contracts with Activision being renewed, future projects being kick-started and possibilities of a “unique new IP” opening up. So it sounds like something is certainly afoot, which is great news. However could whatever they’re working on behind those hermetically-sealed doors be a new Call of Duty title with a distinctly sci-fi theme? Sci-fi shooters are, of course, ten-a-penny – if not twenty – but wouldn’t such a game bearing Call of Duty’s trademark qualities be about the coolest thing ever? You bet it would, and we’re not alone in thinking so either, the web being riddled with such rumours and wishful thinking. The latest tale concerns an Xbox World 360 staffer stumbling over confirmation of Infinity Ward’s future plans at a recent COD4 event only to be immediately pounced upon by anxious Activision PRs. Nevertheless the mag now claims that it’s all “definitely happening”. Heck, that’ll do for us. Fingers crossed the beans will be liberally spilled all over next week’s E3. Stacks more info regarding COD’s imminent next iteration, World at War (pictured), should be forthcoming too – and that’s looking *toasty hot* at the moment. Mmmm!
