Portugal triumphs in Xbox Cup [X360]

Tuesday July 4, 10:52 AM

Don’t shoot the messenger, okay. But just to inform you that Portugal claimed the all the honours during last weekend’s Xbox Cup Championship in Germany.

You’ve probably lost all interest in football for a while, now that England and even Brazil have been dumped out of the World Cup. However if you’re a sporting kind of gamer, you might summon the strength to congratulate the team of Portugal players who became Xbox Cup Champions on 1 July.

Sadly it doesn’t look like our British ambassadors came anywhere close to victory at the event being held in Berlin. The Portuguese team encountered Spain in their semi-final, beating them 3-2 before stealing a 2-1 win over Mexico in the final. Host nation Germany got knocked out 2-1 by Mexico in their semi-final. We’re sure everyone was smiling though: sitting around playing 2006 FIFA World Cup on Xbox 360 at the 85,000 seater 'adidas World of Football' in Platz der Republik, Berlin and all expenses paid. You can’t knock it.

Clearly fortune was smiling on Portugal that day. Fortune not to be confused with Wayne Rooney, of course, who we imagine won’t be smiling much at one particular Portuguese back at Old Trafford next season.
